Hi all,
I had three questions:
1) What is the best way to become a studio executive in the creative department? Should one get an MBA or go to film school? i have a finance background right now.
2) Is there a good chance that one could move from the creative VP position in a film studio to more hands-on jobs such as directing and producing? What are the chances that one could show a screenplay to a director or producer, since I figure that you would work with them all the time on project proposals...
3) Is it possible for non-US citizens who come out of film schools or work during the summers to get work sponsorship visas in Hollywood?
Thanks for the great advice!
Well, To asnwer your questions:
Q: What is the best way to become a studio executive in the creative department? Should one get an MBA or go to film school? i have a finance background right now.
A: It is to hard to get an "Executive Job" in a large studio... most hire people who have been in Film industry for at least 30 years... and have produced a LOT of films... Becoming this possition is NOT the best way!
Q: Is there a good chance that one could move from the creative VP position in a film studio to more hands-on jobs such as directing and producing? What are the chances that one could show a screenplay to a director or producer, since I figure that you would work with them all the time on project proposals...
A: Yes, But look at it this way, by the time you are an executive, you have already made, say 30 Large Budget films... So, you are already a filmmaker.
Q: Is it possible for non-US citizens who come out of film schools or work during the summers to get work sponsorship visas in Hollywood?
A: Dont know, Asking the wronge person there... Call the Visa Office.

You know, until you told me, I never guessed that you were making it all up. How many executives know how to spell the names of their companies really? Dimension, deminsion... whatever. And spelling aside, you were so educated about the process. If you hadn't told me it was a joke, I would have invested my own $20 million into my own production company. Thank god you came clean.
