For $2,000 dollars more or less, what would be the best "field tested" set up for audio equipment. I'm thinking about a wireless mic set up and a short shotgun mic. What is on the market and what other parriphials am I missing? I would like to have everything including various cables and so forth targeted around the $2,000 mark and get a fairly good result in making features.

Check both Azden and Sennheiser, good equipment within your budget. Azden also has a very affordable wireless lavalier kit that might be of interest. I really like the results I get with both my SGM-2X and the ME66.

Depending on the camera your using a product like this ( http://www.filmmaking.net/fnetforum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=326) may be handy.
