I am about to invest a lot of money on a camera. Well for me it's big money! I'm spending about $750 on a Sony DCR-PC1000 MiniDV Digital Video. Please can anyone let me know if this is a wise investment for a first time filmmaker. I really cant afford to spend much more than this and want to invest wisely. Your comments are hugely appreciated!!!!

I've never used that camera, and the basic hardware looks decent, but according to this review it's a bit of a mixed bag: decent picture, but limited manual controls and no ability to use an external microphone.

That said, if you record sound seperately (e.g. on Minidisk, DAT or similar) it may well work OK for you.
