Hello, This is my first time posting and I would like to say that these forums seem to be helpful.
I have a question that I would like to be answered, My sony DCR-DVD703pal camcorder came with a USB cable instead of a firewire cable so pinnacle 9 does not recognise it, now I was wondering is my Camcorder even compatibe with firewire and if so will this work.

Thankyou.
The camera should have Video in/Video Out which means you can try with RCA cables. You can also burn the DVD-r in the camera and and put the DVD-r into your computer and try importing from there. I'm just guessing but I would imagine pinnacle 9 could handle either option.

I said, its actually called "Imtoo DVD ripper platinum 4" Its a good program than can output to many different formats with like 15 codecs.
Do a google search for it if you need it, I would recommend it.
I see a lot of questions regarding cameras that record to DVD. People are buying and using them. Is there any advantage to those cameras over ones that record to tape? They don't seem to be any cheaper than miniDV.

The main advantage I can see is you take the DVD out and put it in your DVD player... no need to faff around with plugging a camcorder in.
Handy if you're never going to edit the footage, not so handy if you are.
I got the trial version of that ImToo DVD Ripper. The ripper works great but I can't seem to find a compression that will allow Adobe Priemere Pro 1.5 to open the footage.
What compression did you use that allowed Pinnacle 9 to open it?

I used the basic avi file compression to open with pinnacle 9. I also sometimes use the divx compressor which gives quite high quality but small file size.
They bboth work fine but you obviously must have the codecs installed on your pc before you can use them, also the trial version may not allow it to be opened in editing programs.
Try the codecs(compressors) I said and tell me what happens.
Both the compressions work fine and produce excellent AVI files. They just won't open in Premiere. I'll play around with it tonight and tell you what happens.

I finally get ImTOO to work with Premiere, sort of. Premiere will load the files but it freezes up and is generally a pain in the butt to use.
I gave up on ImTOO and used Nero Vision, and some free codecs, instead to rip the footage off the DVD. Then I used an audio extractor to get the 5.1 surround sound off the DVD. Because let's face it, a movie just isn't a movie with 5.1.
Anyway thanks for your help with ImTOO I really appreciate it.
