I borrowed a firewire cable to see if it would work in my Dell in there was no port for the cable. Do they make adapters for the firewire or am I just flat out SOL? I will be buying the XL2 soon and I really need to know what's up...

If your Dell is a desktop, you need to get a Firewire IEEE 1394 PCI Adapter and install it. If your Dell is a laptop, you need to get a Firewire IEEE 1394 PCMCIA Cardbus which you put in your PCMCIA card slot. Both the PCI Adapter and PCMCIA Card can be bought at most any computer store or online.

Thanks for the response. I did want to know if I would need to install the PC Firewire adapter myself and is it hard to do? Or does it just connect to the existing ports on my Dell? ( maybe a dumb question)

If your Dell is a desktop, you need to remove the case and install the PCI card into one of the available PCI slots. It is not dificult to do, however if you have never done it before I recommend you have a friend who knows how to do it show you or have a professional install it just to be safe.
