I just finished my first screen play. I don't know what to do with it. Are their anythings i need to get before trying to sell it. oR MAKE IT?
The hard work is just starting.
I'm sure you've checked it over and over to make sure it's perfect - perfect format (no "newbee" mistakes), perfect spelling (no typos) and as tight and fast and interesting as you can make it.
You've asked two very different questions: selling it - making it. Each requires very different answers. However, there are a few things answers that cover both - so I'll stick with those:
Research the market - know what companies buy or make the kind of movie you have written. No need to send your knockdown, dragout horror script to a company that makes romantic comedies.
Make sure your pitch is short and very catchy. It's got to "hook" people right away. You don't get a second chance to make a good impression.
But the most important thing is to write a few more. It's really tough getting anywhere with only one script. Many, many times you'll be asked if you have something else that can read. The logic is simple, really. There are hundreds of thousands of new writers who have that one script - agents, producers, financiers and prodCo's want to know they are working with someone who is in this for the long haul. There are fewer new writers out there who have 4 or 5 really good scripts ready to show.
