I am pretty much a beginer at filmmaking. I am currently working on a project we are seeking a producer for. The budget we need is $50,000. My question is that if I find a producer willing to finance my film, how much should the producer make in return? Does he make a percentage of the box office? And, if so, what kind of percentage is normal? What else does he get? Can anyone tell me?

How far would you go to expose yourself to the world?

Well, you're talking more of a financier than a producer. It probably depends on how good a case you can put to them: if you're just starting out, they may want all the income from the movie until their investment is paid off and a percentage after that, if you can convince them the movie will make a lot of money they may settle for a percentage of everything.

Yes, but what kind of a percentage would be NORMAL for a $50,000 budget? %50, %25? I need to know so I can sit down and negotiate with this guy.

I don't think there is a NORMAL percentage: every movie deal is different.

Mark is right - there is no "normal" percentage. The person putting up the money is rarely the producer of the film. The financier will take 100% of the profits plus 10 to 15% until pay off. Then every deal is different. As a beginner, I'll assume you don't have a great track record of past movie turning a profit so the financier may well take 20 to 30% off the top and 50% of everything after that.

That would be normal. Or as normal as it gets. If that doesn't sound fair to you, then negotiate a percentage that you think is fair.
