Hello all,

I am 26 and about to change my whole life by moving from Istanbul to Vancouver and shifting my career from banking to filmmaking (!) The worst is, i don't know anything about filmmaking 🙁 i only have my great enthusiasm..

i intend to attend a one year course in one of the film schools in Vancouver. (don't have no filmmaking background, but a bachelor's and master's degree in b/ness administration fits for nothing ?:(!?)

I have two questions;

  • am i too late to try my chance in filmmaking ?
  • if not, which school would you advice ?

Thanks,
Ferhat

Hey,

In answer to your questions;
After spending some time in Vancouver recently, I briefly looked into the film schools and universitys.
I first looked into the two university UBC and SFU, which offered great degrees in film. Then I looked at the shorter courses, which came down to VFS, Capilano College, and Langara College.

For me personally, money was a big influence in my final choice, as I don't have much at all. VFS is expensive, and I'm still not entirely sure why, I mean there are certain things, like the faculty etc, but no one real reason why it cost SO much.

Capilano, is not that expensive, and Langara is half the cost of Capilano. But between these two I felt Langara was the best course.
I was lucky enough to attend an open day at Langara and get some good info on the course. But most of that info can be found at their website, and the same goes for the rest really. So make sure you research well!

I hope it's not too late for you to try your chance in filmmaking as I'm only 1 year younger than you and I intend to try to get in to Langara! But serisouly, I say if you enjoy doing something, then just do it, and keep doing it, it's never too late!

Also that degree you have could come in pretty useful for certain areas of filmmaking!

Anyways here are the websites of the Uni's and School's i mentioned, hope all this helps you out;
