a director i met recently said he had manged to shoot actors in front of a mirror without seeing the reflection of the cam.He had infact trucked the camera side to side while keeping the actorsin view and still there was no reflection.he claimed he had not made use of any CG techniques or post production.anyone have any idea how this can be done....
I'd have to see the footage. Usually just composing a shot at the right angles can prevent any reflections from being seen.
If the camera clearly looked like it was in front of the mirror, it could just be an optical illusion. Maybe there really wasn't a mirror, only a window that was made to look like one. Could you see the actors and their reflections in the same shot?
The camera must have been at an angle so that it was shooting off the mirror at an angle the same as that which it was pointing. then it would be looking past its own reflection. Like this:
----------------------------------------------- mirror

Set this up with a viewfinder and an accomplice, and you'll see how easy this is. First of all, if he used a real mirror, then he wasn't right on axis, because the actor would block the shot of the mirror. So we know he was off-axis, and it doesn't take a lot of off-axis to hide a camera. You take the camera slightly off axis, and when the actor is supposed to be looking in the mirror at themselves, instead they look at the reflection of the camera.
"On a good gate, that's a wrap."
in response to what astral said...yes he used a real mirror and you could also see he actors reflection in the mirror. But i'll try out what focus and mandor were talking abt. Thanks a lot guys...i'll tell u what happened after i try it out again. If u guys can come up with something else also please let me know....Thanks again?:)?
sorry if the diagram was stuffed up, i did it in an Icafe and the resoloution was different.

You could have it where the frame of the mirror actually aimed towards the camera but the mirror itself (inside the frame) was at an angle. :/ Fun stuff to try and figure out though.
