I want to make a film with 28 main characters.
is it possible. doable?
will i face a lot of problem?
what kind of problems would i face?
please help i am a newbie.
If there are 28 they aren't main characters. There are no main characters.
You should watch movies such as Cannonball Run and It's a Mad, Mad, Mad World which deal with lots and lots of characters and see hot its done. I think it can be far more difficult to establish each character and make them recognizable than doing the same for a small number of characters.

but they do make the charecters all have a memorable backstory.

Lost, however, is a tv series that has twenty hours a season to provide that backstory. A film has far less time.

You can do anything. And if you're going to utilize over 20 characters, then you should probably work on doing it well!

Robert Altman maintained that it was easier to do an ensemble piece because when one story started getting stale, you could just cut away from it and come back when it got interesting again.
Take a look at Nashville. Also, you might want to watch Slacker (not by Altman, but definitely an ensemble piece). 28 characters is a bit of a squeeze, but I imagine that with the right script and a quick enough pace it could be done.
The trick is that you have to introduce each character, their story arc, and provide a meaningful resolution. That's tough to do, and it's tough to keep that many stories in the air at the same time.

I'm certain you could but it might be extremely aggravating. Are all of those people neccesary to the story? Or did you just decide I want X number of people and I'm going to make a story based around that?
