Hey all! This is obviously a newbie question, but how does one capture a movie via film (16mm, 35mm, etc) and then edit it on a computer? What is the process of putting film images onto a computer?

ok so then i have a question, how does one go from the digital world BACK to the film world?

I might be 18 **(just turned 19 April 4th)**, but watch out, everyone has to start somewhere. I'm just starting a bit faster and bigger. 🙂

It can be as simple as the "film chain" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Film_Chain
Or a high resolution film scanner http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motion_picture_film_scanner

If you shot your footage on film and you want to convert to video for editing, I assume the specialized equipment described in these Wiki articles is not something the independent filmmaker would go out and buy. Is it expensive to pay a facility to transfer the film to video for you?

Film to video is fairly cheap, compared to the cost of shooting film in the first place. Video to film is not.

You do have the option of getting the negative cut instead, but then you have to do all effects, grading, etc on film rather than video.
