They spam boards all over the net and I've noticed they don't answer questions posted to them.

I've done a little research and they seem to offer what most schools of that type offer. It's too bad
they feel the need to treat people on messageboards with such disrespect.

While filmschool will teach you a lot of THEORY and some "nuts & bolts" to make a movie, know that most schools do not prepare students for a real life in the professional film industry.

There is no single way to get in. Even if you have a friend or relative who can get you your first job, the best way for anyone to find success is to learn how the business actually operates. Once you know who everyone on set and off actually is and what they actually do all day long, then you can use that information to figure out what path is best for you.

For the most comprehensive WORLDWIDE list of filmschools available anywhere, go to http://www.whatireallywanttodo.com/ and click on the "filmschools" link at the top. The list of filmschools has been updated with 146 schools in 40 US states and 555 schools in 65 other countries around the world!??

For some people, volunteering to work on indie movies to gain experience is what they can do and need. For others, finding some kind of entry-level job in a movie-industry related company is best. If you want an "on set" job, you'll likely have to spend weeks to months working for free or very little money until you have met enough people who will like you and call you for a paying job. If you want some kind of "off set" job in post-production or an executive style area, then you likely won't volunteer for anything, but you will be starting at the bottom and not making much money.

Any road into the business takes patience, passion, and perseverance. While you're still in filmschool, make the time to learn everything you can about the actual professional industry so that you can better tailor your own education to guide you toward your ultimate goals.

Good luck!

I'm currently at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, and I'm quite happy with the program.

True, being a film school graduate is not going to make anyone any more likely to hire you. The piece of paper you get at the end is pretty much worthless. But film school DOES do a fantastic job of making you a better filmmaker, letting you build a reel, and providing you with connections and a chance to use equipment you otherwise wouldn't have access to. And remember that going to film school doesn't preclude you from crewing on actual film shoots at the same time.

No matter where you go, the program isn't going to do the work for you. It's possible to graduate from film school having learned nothing, if you are so inclined. Whether you go into school or straight into the industry, you need a strong personal drive if you're going to get anywhere.

Go to NYU. Just so you can rub it in people's faces. "Well sure we could do it your way, but I WENT TO NYU!"
