Hey, I was just wondering if anybody here has ever started a youth club in their area, devoted to producing, rehearsing for films and getting more people involved. I really like the idea of that and it seems like it could be a necessity if I want to get into a rhythm of making good low-budget films successfully but I don't know how I would start it.
Any advice from you more knowledgable people?

Tried this many years ago. Here's what I did. Check out local drama groups and musical societies for young aspiring talent. Promote your idea to them to get them interested. If you know others that are interested in filmmaking then ask them to get involved aswell. Place a few freebie ads around your area setting out a time date and venue for the first meeting and detailing that its open to those interested in acting and filmmaking.
You could also contact your local paper and ask them to run a small piece in the community news section. The more that hear about it, the better chance it stands to get off the ground.
Ah, yes. It was more a question of what people would do every night and how it could be kept like a proper youth club instead of some strange weekly gathering, where there might not be enough time to film actual scenes.

Ok so.
First meeting is obviously a getting to know you session and then from week two onwards its a screen writing session with actors working secenes and filmmkers deciding shots. Get some workshops going on a rolling weekly basis and try to organise talks from experienced actors/filmmakers. Also include screenings of films and discussion afterwards, from an acting perspective and filmmaking perspective. Build all of this towards a few small productions and then repeat on an annual basis, getting bigger and better.
Yeah, I like that. I could definitely see that working. What do you do in a 'workshop' though?

Get budding writers to bring in scripts. They can all rework/fine tune them, share ideas and get the actors to act out scenes from them to see how they work. Meanwhile the camera/filmmaking people can perhaps be developing storyboards for the scripts. The whole aim of the workshop session will be to get a film or films made.
Oh, great. I definitely need more help with some of the things I'm trying to produce. Did you start your club as a big meeting, because I live in a fairly rural area and that would be hard.

It was back in 1986! Had about 12 at the first meeting. Started it in my school one rainy wednesday.
Ahh, school. That sounds more doable. Why do I never think of things like that?! Although, I am going into an entirely new school for 6th form so it'd be a bit daunting to turn up and start a club.
