Well it all depends on what kind of fan film you're making. George Lucas lets the fans make films based on Star Wars. The only catch is that you must not sell the film in any way. Usually no one has problems with fan films but some companies such as DC Comics have major problems. Although lately DC seems to be backing off. My suggestion is to make a Star Wars Fan Film, there is a huge fan base out there. Check out theforce.net.
