Hi I am doing a school project that involves the topic entertainment production. I am new to this field. However, I have done some initial research on such topic and from the information of the research to form such questionnaire. Your experience and knowledge will be most appreciated. Thanks =)
1. How do companies decide what movies go under production?
2. How do they decide how much money can be invested in a movie?
3. What is the role of advertising of a film?
4. Where do most of the funds come from?
5. Home entertainment industry has become bigger. Do you think theatre business will go smaller over the time because of that?
6. Titanic made the most profit worldwide so far. What was the reason that so much was invested in that movie at that time?
7. What are the differences in production team?s structure between building a digital film and a traditional film?
8. What happens when a movie did not make a profit?
9. Low budget film such as Blair Witch Project made a tremendous profit. What do you think is the reason behind it?
10. Peter Jackson?s earlier films did well but not that great in my opinion. Why would New Line Cinema willing to invest such huge amount of money on him to make three episodes of Lord of the Rings.
11. What was the reason Peter Jackson?s King Kong get the most budget to make such a film?
12. Many films lost a lot of profit. Why do you think that is?
13. What is a successful film in your opinion? Which one is it?
quote:
1. How do companies decide what movies go under production?
They are in the business of making money. They decide based on marketing, experience of the talent involved (director, writer, producer, actors) and (sometimes) artistic value.
quote:
2. How do they decide how much money can be invested in a movie?
It's a negotiation, The producer want more, the company wants to spend less.

3. What is the role of advertising of a film?
Marketing is how the audience finds out the movie exists. The more it's advertised, the more people are aware of it.

4. Where do most of the funds come from?
Investors, profits from previous films, banks.

5. Home entertainment industry has become bigger. Do you think theatre business will go smaller over the time because of that?
The theater business is already smaller than decades ago. But it will never go away. People still like to get out of the house and enjoy a movie with lots of other people. And frankly, I think no matter how good home entertainment systems get, teenage boy will always want to take their girlfriends away from their house with the parents hanging around somewhere.

6. Titanic made the most profit worldwide so far. What was the reason that so much was invested in that movie at that time?
Cameron has often said he didn't get enough money. The reason so much was invested is because the director had the clout and experience to get it.

7. What are the differences in production team?s structure between building a digital film and a traditional film?
Not much. A HD production like Star Wars and even Once Upon A Time in Mexico needs almost as much crew as a production shot on film. You still need props, make-up, drivers and caterers. The big change is in very low budget shows.

8. What happens when a movie did not make a profit?
The simple answer is people lose money. Sometimes the director or producer finds it hard to get another big movie made and the studios won't fund another film like the one that lost money.

9. Low budget film such as Blair Witch Project made a tremendous profit. What do you think is the reason behind it?
Great advertising and a great "hook".
quote:
10. Peter Jackson?s earlier films did well but not that great in my opinion. Why would New Line Cinema willing to invest such huge amount of money on him to make three episodes of Lord of the Rings.
It wasn't easy. Jackson made a great pitch. It was a huge gamble, but one New Line was willing to take at that time.
quote:
11. What was the reason Peter Jackson?s King Kong get the most budget to make such a film?
Because the Lord of the Rings films made appx. $2,553,000,000 world wide on a production budget of appx. 300,000,000
quote:
12. Many films lost a lot of profit. Why do you think that is?
William Goldman once said "Nobody KNOWS anything". That's pretty true. Many films don't make money because people don't go see them. Why don't they go? Nobody knows.
quote:
13. What is a successful film in your opinion? Which one is it?
A successful film can be defined as one that makes a lot of money.
My opinion is a successful film is one that I really like even if it doesn't make money.
