I want to be a filmmaker and I think the easiest way to do that would be to become an editor.

I don?t know how to be and editor. Do you just learn to edit by yourself and then send a reel out to studios/ companies? Would I need to be certified are go to a school?

About how much money does an editor make? I read somewhere that it is $35 an hour.

I don't think any way is an easy way. But your way sounds good to me.

Learn to edit by yourself, work on others peoples movies, start on small student films and work your way up to small independent films, make a name for yourself as an editor who is creative and easy to work with.

$35 sounds about right - lower for those starting out and much higher for those with skill, talent and experience.

Is there a book you would recommend that would help me, I will use a iMac G5 and Final Cut when I am ready.

Would I also need to lean Avid?

Thanks for the help
