Hi guys, I'm new to the editing world and have been currently using Windows Movie Maker for my projects. I love it because it's very user friendly The problem I'm having is when I put together my clips and finalize my project (even in Best Quality playback) the clips are looking jumpy and they seem to jerk at the beginning of each clip. I'm wondering if someone can either help me to figure out how to correct this problem in WMM or help me find another program to use. My budget is under $100 for another program. If someone can recommend another FREE one, that'd be great also! Thanks.

Welcome to filmmaking.net! 🙂

Hmm, that sounds rather... odd. I have edited oodles of videos with Movie Maker and never had a problem similar to that (had tons of other problems, just none like that ?;)?). My first suggestion would be to search around on the Movie Maker help and community forums for solving your issue.

If that doesn't work, you could try VirtualDub. It's a little less accessible than Movie maker but has apparently a lot of community filters and support. It's also free, so that's well within your budget. 🙂

Thanks for the welcome! It's good to find such an informative site. Thanks for the suggestion too, I will look into using VirtualDub. I have another question though. Could the problem I'm having in WMovie Maker be related at all to the program I use to convert my .MOD files to .mpg files? I'm currently using a free version of SDCopy to do that. I downloaded Emicsoft Mod converter and Prism Video Converter to try those if that could be the reason.

magix movie maker- pretty cheap, but a solid program. Its not set up like most, but once you master it you can utilize a lot of things.

check it out, and welcome to the forum.

It very well could be related to the conversion software... do you notice anything odd like you see in the rendering when you watch just the converted files? Anyway sounds like trying some other programs will be worth a shot.

So I've now tried Prism Video Converter and SUPER converter. I love Prism because it actually shows pics on each individual clip, no more wondering what the heck i'm going to be opening up in Movie Maker (I"m talking to you SDCopy) SUPER actually made my Movie Maker repeatedly shut down so I un-installed it and restored my default settings which thankfully corrected it. Unfortunately as much as I like Prism it still did not correct the problem. (btw i've been converting .MOD to .AVI) Am I really the only one experiencing this though? Anyways I guess it is time to look for another editing program. Thanks for helping everyone.

If you search editing software there will be loads of posts that will answer your question. this is quite a common topic. Apart from the free software like windows movie maker and imovie there is the next step up software like sony vegas.
As i said search this topic and you will find alot of answers

I bought Magix Movie Edit Pro Ver. 10 off of ebay for $10. I couldn't be happier with it. It's an older version but I also have an older computer so it does what I need it to do. Plus it comes with all kinds of crazy things you can do with the video and I'm sure there's all kinds of stuff I haven't figured out yet.

You also might be able to find some older programs at some large electronic stores, such as frys. They have just about everything. They might be old but they do get the job done.

I would need to travel at least a thousand miles to get to a Fry's store (there are none on the Eastern seaboard). In the 19 years I had lived in the US, I haven't been to one yet. We do have B & H Photo Video, on the other hand...
