Hi Guys
I'm new here.
I plan to make a documentory this summer about spearfishing. I plan to use a Canon Hv20 for the video. I wanted to record in Hi Def and this one seemed well priced for what it included. Anyway there will be plenty above water and in water footage.
I might have to start with Windows movie maker to get started, but I can see the limitations already. From what I have seen on You tube with guys using Sony vegas pro 8 looks like a good program. I don't care about transitions and that cheesy kinda stuff. But I would like to do things like what do you call when they put a video inside a video like on the tv weather forecast?
As you would of noticed I'm as green as grass but I do know my way round a PC.
Thanks Ron Bakker

If good things take time, I must be great!

Windows movie maker is definitly out of the question, your shooting HD for a start and WMM can definitly not handle HD, nor can it work in anything decent. Although i would reccommend not shooting in HD at all, the workflow issues that working in HD brings are just not worth it sometimes, especially if you are inexperienced in filmmaking.

As for editing software, you may want to try and find either Sony Vegas or Adobe Premiere. Altertativly, you could find someone who is experienced in editing and knows how to use good editing software. That way you can learn about editing from someone else, rather than trying to learn by yourself.

Yeah, I found Adobe flash was alright until I got to the action script side of things, an experienced hand their would of been handy.

I have not looked it up properly but doesn't vista premium's movie maker record in HD?(I Have Vista P OS but not yet built a computer for it.)

Personally I'd recomend getting a mac PC cause they come with final cut alreadyu installed (depending onif you can afford to buy a new PC?). If not then an Adobe Premiere system (Both similar, both non linear). Cleary.
