What should I be using to record my film on? My friend tells me that the one I sent (recorded onto +R) has scratchy sound. My other friend (that I sent a different copy, but +R format) can only play it on one of his DVD players. The one that does play it sounds fine.
Should I used DVD-R?

Also, if you look on any DVD for sale it says "DVD VIDEO". What are those? -R's?? You cannot purchased "DVD VIDEO" DVD's for recording. Or can you?

I'm lost?:(!?

There are some compliance issues between the formats. Todays DVD palyers usually plays DVD+/-R/RW without problems, but older players can have problems with them.
I've read some compliance tests earlier last year, and if memory serves me right, DVD-R where most compliant, but only with a few percents. So in practise +/- shouldn't make that much difference.

The DVD VIDEO is only to indicate that the player is for movies on DVD, as opposed to DVD AUDIO which is for music/audio (which more and more players can handle but far from all...).

The jerkiness of Your burned DVD can depend on different things, such as the audio or video stream not being fully compliant with the DVD specifications. Or a bad burn, or... Some players are more forgiving than others.

It's a jungle, that's the only thing You can be sure of!

Rico

Apple maintains a good list of DVD compatibility; you can find it here (link below). DVD-R is still the most playable format.
