Hey,
I know this might sound a little weird, but how can I fake drug use? In particular smoking marijuana.
It?s important in the film. I don?t know how to get around this. I?ve had a couple actors say, ?lets just smoke pot?, but that brings up a few problems.
1. The police.
2. It?s hard to direct actors that are high. (Not good)
3. And the biggest problem, one of my leads used to smoke pot and kicked the habit a while back, and he has no intention of going back to it.
So how can I get around this? I?ve thought about having them smoke tobacco (They have no problem with that), but I would like some other suggestions. I normally wouldn?t have a problem with not actually showing it, but some important events happen during those scenes.
Help, please.

Using tobacco is the way to simulate the visual effect of smoking, and talent in your actors is the way to make them appear convincingly stoned (and if they've had experience of what it's like, then hopefully they should be more convincing).
There isn't really any other way around it besides getting your actors to actually smoke pot. Legal issues aside, that probably isn't a good idea because you might not find the "real" effect of stoned actors is whay you want.

I am also working on a script that involves important events that occur while the characters are high. i'm not sure what i'm going to be doing for it, but if it helps, one of the local head shops in my area sells legal marijuana- without the THC. i think. perhaps there is a similar setup in your area. on the downside, i think it actually costs more than the real thing and probably isn't too practical. but if you want realism it's something to check into.
