What are the chances of getting a actual job in directing? I mean it must be low, but is there anyone here who would know how to actually it get that job on film? Just curious
The chances are very good. There is an enormous amount of TV, film and theater that need directors. And don't forget music videos, commercials, training films, promotional films, educational films and documentaries.
How exactly do you get a job directing a film? You show talent, drive, vision and experience to the people hiring.

This type of job (I think) is like modelling, photography, art e.t.c
You've gotta have a good portfolio that exhbits any work you've done pro or amateur.
And a bit of luck..
Personally I've been amazed at how inept some of the professional directors I've met are: I've no idea how they got their jobs, but they only keep them because other people are covering up their mistakes (e.g. their poor editor producing something watchable out of the crap they're given).
You shouldn't be surprised Mark. There are inept people in every single profession.

Yip.
Ive worked with a bunch of fools in my time. It amazes me that companies operate in such ways.
