Does anybody know how to convert files from WMV (Windows Media Video) to an AVI format? I know that you can use Sony Vegas, but that's a tad too expensive. Are there any good, cheap or free programs out there for converting these type of files.
Many thanks,

VirtualDub may be able to do that too: certainly it can convert MPEG and other formats to .AVI. I don't remember the URL, but Google should find it.
I tried Stoik but it seems to request that I have an 'output video file'. I can't find one on my computer however and do not know how to make one. Any suggestions?

If the resolution of the final AVI doesn?t matter, you can use Windows Movie Maker that?s included free with Windows XP. It can accept WMV files as content for import and will export to DV-AVI. The exported AVI will be 720 x 480 ? 30 fps ? and that may not be what you need.
Hope this helps.
