My best friend and I have a handful of scripts between us but no agent. I know I need to write a query letter to agents to get their attention and that I need to have our scripts protected. How much does a copyright for a script cost?

We also plan to start our own production company. We already have a logo and an original name for it. How do we go about getting our name & logo trademarked and how much would it cost?

I've searched copyrights, and trademarks but the results are cloudy. Alot of the sites found seem like scams. Others are very expensive. I know our scipts are great so I'm willing to pay the cost to copyright all our scripts and trademark our logo (even if the cost is $500+) but before I do I want to make sure I'm not just giving money away.

The best place to get accurate info is the official government sites that handle the copyright and trademark registration. Not any of the clearing houses that do all the work for, charge a fee and may not be legit.

That said, I can personally vouch for "Legal Zoom"

http://www.copyright.gov/
http://www.uspto.gov/main/trademarks.htm

And you can register with the Writers guild

Thanks Certified. You always come through with good info. Am I missing something or is it really only $35 - $45 to copyright a screenplay? Is registering with the WGA just as safe?

That trademark price is no joke. I'll just have to save up a little before I can put my logo on my movies.

This question may be outside the scope of this forum but, is it possible to protect a logo with a copyright or does it HAVE to be a trademark.

Click on the link I provided and then click on "Basic Facts about Trademarks". This will answer your question.
