I am sure you are all much more knowledgeable than I am. I want to purchase a new PC, but wish to be able to transfer video from my analog Hitachi camcorder to the PC so I can burn DVDs. I don't want anything fancy -- just a basic copying procedure. What cables, cards, cables, software would I need to accomplish this? Any help would be appreciated.

Hey, I found this link on Dell:

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/ProductDetail.aspx?TabPage=producthighlights&sku=A0160315&c=us&l=en&cs=19

Does anybody have any experience with this and know if it would work? It is called "Dazzle Digital Video Creator 80".

Thanks.

Ed, thanks for your input. Will it take hours of video to the PC or just short clips? I am assuming (and hoping) for hours! Thanks.

ive only captured clips but im pretty sure it captures as long as you want. if not, you could combine the clips together with an editor, if you have one.

Thanks, Ed. I also wonder if a W/IEE card is needed on the computer if we upgrade our video camera to digital?

You should be able to capture as much as your hard drive will have room for.

For a digital vid camera you can just use a firewire cable, which your machine should have a port for already if it's not too old. Most cams come with the cable when you buy them.

I have a digital 8 cam which i just use the firewire cable connected t the cam, my miniDV tapes play through a sony dsr-11 and then firewier to the computer and any vhs or svhs tapes go from teh vcr to the sony to convert it to digital and then it passes through to the computer on the firewire cable. It's not recommended to use the camera to capture from, unnecessary wear and tear and all that. But it is doable.

I used to use a canopus advc-100 to connect everything through to convert to digital. Reasonable inexpensive too. I think I might be selling it since it's just sitting around.
