My friend and I are very interested in making some sort of short film, but we are completely new. We have never done anything of the sort, except for the occasional school project. All we have is a non-digital camcorder and a low budget. We just sort of wanted to try out the movie making thing, to see if we like it, so we are sort of uncertain to shell out the big bucks for any equipment if it turns out that we aren't into it. Except with the camcorder we have now, the only editing we can do is with a record button on a VCR. What do you think we should do?
Also, if anyone has any suggestions on how to work a short film with the minimal resources we have, they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
i would absolutely, 100% recommend you scrounge up whatever $ you can get to get a digital camcorder. you can get one on ebay for as cheap as 100 bucks now a days.
if you tried doing it now, with just a vcr, the editing would be so tiresome and ineffective it might turn you off filmmaking.

If you absolutely can't go beyond what you have now, then do the absolute best with what you have. At least you'll have had experience. Then, by the time you do get some better equipment, you'll know what you're doing.

I agree with the first poster. Lay out the money for a cheap DV camera, and use your computer's pre-installed movie editing software (PC's have Windows MovieMaker and Mac's have iMovie). That's how I made my first movie, and it was a lot of fun.
