We are just starting out in the film business and are in need of a good editing program but don't have a lot of money to spend. If anybody could recommend some that would help a lot. Thanks

I think sony vegas is a good editing program for people starting out. Depending on what you want there are 4 standards ranging from basic to pro. But even the basic is good, check out the info on there website, and i would download the 30 day trial before you buy. Apart from vegas i dont know as i havent used many others.

iMovie will meet your needs for the basics. If you can learn how to cut there, the principals will carry with you. Also, if you are a student, you may be able to get Final Cut Pro at a reduced cost. Final cut and Avid are still the industry standard.

Did Apple ever make Final Cut for PC?

Is cost really that big an issue if you want a quality editing software? I'vealways found that you get what you pay for, so in my experience mate its best to save up a little bit longer if cost is a big issue.

Apple never made Final Cut for the PC but I believe they bought the software from its creator and it was avialable for the PC back then. Apple made it Mac only and gave big discounts to really capture a chunk of the market. That was a long time ago though, as far as computers go.

Anybody used Linux based stuff? I know there are a couple of distributions geared towards video. Dybe:Bolic and Ubuntu studio... not sure how they fare in a real world situation?

Also not sure of the learning curve, but of you are starting from scratch it may work out?
