I'm just curious if there are any plans for actually making a filmmaking chatroom. These forums are great, but I think it would be amazing for fellow filmmakers to chat in real time, get answers to their questions instantly, and more or less just have the ability to become immersed. I think it would work wonders to bring people together, to have a place where they can just babble on about scripts and film and movies all day, especially for people like me who have no contacts and live in a smaller city, where interest in film is sort of diluted. Or if there are no plans for this, does anyone know of any chat sites dedicated to this purpose?

IMO, you have to take into consideration the people in the forum are from all over the globe. So there are time zone issues.

That being said, it could work.

You could set up a chat room on Yahoo or MSN. Then let people know where it is.

Yeah actually, I've been researching that. I've found that most free chat sites that allow you to create your own room will only allow a small number of people in. We'll see what happens anyway.

The problem with chat is you get the answer right away but its not permanent so if someone is not there at the time they don't get the info, and if you won't to refresh what someone said it's gone.

Maybe I'm thinking oldstyle chat and things are different now but I think the forum concept works better for most question and answer scenerios.

Definitely, the forum does work better for question and answer. I'm not so much thinking about FAQ's and things like that, I'm thinking more along the lines of giving people with similar interests a chance to learn about each other, and to support each other. I'm from a small 'city' in Ontario, and I have little access (for now) to people who take an interest in filmmaking, etc. So the chat idea wasn't so much about Q&A, but getting to know other filmmakers, and being able to surround yourself with people who share similar interests, even if it is in a virtual format. I understand that in order to make movies, I'm going to have to meet people in a physical sense, I just think it would be cool to have an interesting conversation with other aspiring filmmakers or actors. Obviously, it's not for everyone, but I'll bet there's a lot of people who would enjoy it.
