This question isn't really relevant to any thing that I am going to do in the near future, but its some thing that I dont understand how to do!
How do you use blue / green screen to create CGI? I understand the use of the coloured screen not being in the pigmentation of the human skin, but other than that Im just as in the dark as most audiences!
I once watched an old clip on youtube of four men recreating a landing scene ? Normandy beach similar to that of 'Saving private Ryan'. But I have long since lost the link to this!
I enjoy films that make use of it such as 'Lord of the rings' (All credit to J.R. Tolken a proud local figure in the history of my home city Birmingham, UK) and '300' (Which has since became the appitomy of what I feel an action movie should be), but in some respects I am just as ignorant as most audiences!

Green screens aren't used to create CGI, maybe ask your question in a different way if I'm understanding this wrong.

Ok i remember the clip you are talking about and it has been dicussed here a few times - the technique they use is called masking which means putting diffferent layers of video on top of each other. To see what i mean check out the links below about the beach invasion scene.
Ok like Henry701 said i dont really understand what you are asking and i dont what to write alot information that you probaly already know. Are you asking about chroma keying (blue/green screen) which is used to replace a particular colour with a picture or video (again i apologise if you are thinking - yer i know that!!) I dont understand what you mean using chroma to CREATE CGI. CGI - computer created imagery just means anything which is not real and has been created in post. the most common are trhings such as monsters in fantasy films but could be anything that has been created in a program such as after effect.
Try to rephase your question for a better response

Go to YouTube and search for greenscreen and how-to and you should find a bunch of stuff. The basics. Have the screen a distance behind your actors. Light it seperately. Adjust the focus so that actors are focused and greenscreen is not (this blurs the screen and makes it more uniform in color and easier to mask out).
The arguements for Green vs Blue have positives in both directions. I'd just say that if your actor has blue or green eyes that might be a factor in which background to choose. Also choose their clothes accordingly. Nothing looks worse than a bit of something disappearing unintentionally. This can be fixed in post, but it is easier to do it ahead of time.
