I am shooting video on my Motorola Razr that I want to edit in iMovie on my Powermac G4.
My question is how best to transfer the files to my G4 with as little detail loss as possible. I have been emailing the files and have noticed a lot of detail is lost. In fact the videos look like mud compared to what I see on the cells' screen. I expect pixelation but not so much detail loss.
Bluetooth is a possibility, but does anyone know of a better way, say transfering straight to the PC via a cable/reader of sorts?
Wait wait wait, I'm confused.
You mean to say you filmed a video on a CELL PHONE and you are NOW worried about detail loss?!?!?
WTF mate?
You're train of thought is lost on me.
That's it! You people have stood in my way long enough! I'm going to clown college!

Sword, have you always been posting from Luxembourg? First time I've noticed that.

Should I write SLOWWWLY? Obviously you will not get great resolution, but I'm talking about existing detail lost in transfer.
If you have seen any cell phone film festivals people are creating some interesting stuff. It's never the equipment bloke.
If anybody has had success with uploading cell videos I'd love to hear.
I've never heard of a a cell phone video festival.
Are you looking at the footage in the same size window on the G4 as you view it on the cell phone? Enlarging the window will cause the quality to flop. Beyond that I can't figure out why there would be any difference.

I expect graininess from an enlarged image. But with the transfer method (email) I've been using I'm losing detail. A LOT of detail. For instance the foreground has small rocks in the phones' display but I only brown mud on my computer screen. Awful. So I'm assuming data is lost from the internet transfer.
Here are some cell phone video festivals;

I thought the film 'Le Cahier froid' was very interesting.
You'll get a lot more than graininess on an enlarged image. If your phone records at, let's say a generous 320x240, and you view it in a window that is 640x480, or even larger, any detail that you saw on the phone will be completely lost. If there was a rock on the phone that took up 7 square pixels, and you blow that up to twice the size on the computer monitor, it will have to stretch those 7 squared pixels out over 14 squared pixels, which means it will turn into a giant colored area with no detail. Sending a file through email sends it bit by bit. It should be an exact copy. What resolution does the cell phone record at?
Not to mention, if you're emailing the video FROM the cell phone, the phone itself may be scaling the video resolution down to allow faster email transfer. Might be worth checking the phone manual.

Well laddie, I bounce around. I started in Ireland, then landed US, then France, currently Luxemburg yes. For a while I didn't post anything up because I was like a man without a country, but I'll be here for a wee bit, so I figured I'd throw it up.
Now to miss maggie, I am still so confused, and writing slowly will do nothing but slow you down and look like an ass. The resolutions going to be all FUBAR anyways, so whats the dealio?

If cell phone film festivals are common than transfering the video from the phone to the computer must also be common (I would think 100% of the people in the festival had to deal with it). If it has been done it's been blabbed about on the internet somewhere, try a googlesearch.
Since Razrs are brand new there has to be a way. Perhaps sending it to PixPLace first or something.

USB from phone to computer?

Razrs have no USB connection that I'm aware of. They do have blue-tooth so perhaps it can be transfered that way.

Probably a good idea.
"USB from phone to computer?"
Thats what I was hoping for, a direct upload. But Motorola doesn't seem to manufacture such a creature.
I am interested in this process because I have my cell with me always and its good way to always be making images, static and moving.
I'm going to take a go at Bluetooth next. I'll post my progress, I'm sure other creatives in the newbie forums use this medium as an image making device also.
Bluetooth usb adaptors for macs/pc are only about ?15 now, so that might be worth a look. I'm confused tho, email shouldn't lose you any quality, as the file being transfered is still the same- i.e you don't transcode it into anything, so wouldn't lose any quality.
