I've been searching for the best price for the XL2 and only getting rude sales reps. Is this old news or are all these sales people complete assholes? Either they hang up on you or treat you like shit. what's the deal. all I want is the best price for a very expensive cam. Even their prices are lies. ROYAL CAMERA is one example. dont deal with this company. If anyone knows a company with great prices, please let me know...

I wanna thank ROLWHITE for the helpful hint about the XL2. The best price I found was A&M Photo World.com - $2,259.00 Now that's a great price considering the cam your getting. And most of all they were'nt rude assholes like ROYAL CAMERA. Thanks again for the advise!

Note that you should always be careful with camera deals that seem too good to be true. I don't know any of the companies listed here, but some disreputable dealers have been known to sell you the camera alone without the accessories that normally come with it (e.g. battery charger, without which the camera is useless), or to quote the price for the camera alone and then charge you a huge markup on those accessories so you end up paying more than you would have to buy from another dealer.

So wherever you buy from, make sure you're getting everything that you should be getting, and compare prices between identical packages.

Looks like he's right, folks. Check it out:

A disappointment to be sure, but good to know nonetheless. Thanks MarkG. Now, who wants to donate $200 to help me get that PV-GS200 before school lets out?

Hi,
I have a question related to all of this. I don't know much about buying cameras, so forgive my ignorance.

I was looking at places for a Canon XL1S and I stumbled upon Amazon. One person was selling it for $800 brand new in the box and with all accessories. Now this obviously is too good to be true, but what I'm wordering is what could be bad about it? Seeing that Amazon has the "safe buying guarantee", how could they cheat you? I've never used Amazon before though, so I'm not sure of how that works.

Thanks

yeah.. websites like amazon are pretty trustable, i've used them many times before.

has anyone checked prices on eBay if there are any? there aren't as many scammers on these sites as one may assume..

With the release of the XL2, it was inevitable that the bottom would drop out of the price of the XL1s, however $800 does seem a little cheap to me. I would have thought most people would be looking to shift these for $1000 - $1500, but you never know.

I'm not 100% sure, but would assume that Amazon will cover you against fraudulent transactions through their marketplace sellers, so it might be ok. You could always email the seller and ask them why it's so cheap.

OK, I had said before that A&M was great and so on. Well, I take back everthing I said. The XL2 at A&M really goes for $4000.00 not the low price they have listed. I did call and the low price listed is for ONLY the XL2 body. no battery, no lens, no nothing! I guess this is what being green means and now my film career takes a backseat while I pimp my wife for the XL2. DAMN!
