Hi everyone! I am so happy I found this site as I have been looking for a good place to ask some questions for a long time.

I am a Canadian High School sneior looking to go into Film, mostly in writing, and producing, and perhaps directing. The two schools I have been looking at are LA Film, and the Art Institute of Los Angeles.

The LA Film is a one year program, and the Bach. Scince in video production from the Art Institute is 3 years.

I would really like advice on choosing a good school that has a proven record of good turnouts, and good classes to fit my needs of wanting to write and produce.

Which of those two schools would you pick? From what I gather from their sites is that the Art Institute is focused more on english skills, and writing, while the LA Film school deals with everything, from writing, producing, editing, cameras, directing, etc.

All I know is that I would like to go to a school in the LA Area, and I also know the odds of getting into a place like USC, and UCLA are very low.

Please help me! I really need advice on this, as I only have one more year to choose a school and figure everything out!

where in Canada are you? if you're in toronto you have a lot more options than going far away to LA, which would be ridiculously expensive.

there's the CDN film centre, which was founded by Norman Jewison and has had some excellent results. Ryerson, Sheraton, and York have good programs too.

it also depends on what 'kind' of filmmaker you want to be. if you're interested in becoming more of an art-house 'auteur', you would probably be better off staying here/moving to Toronto. if you're into more commercial stuff, moving might be the way to go.

I am in Manitoba. I looked into Toronto and Vancouver schools but I just feel I am more suited for an education away from home. I am not just saying that because I want to get an education in the film capital of the world, but rather, I need a change as well.

I am also considering to attend Los Angeles Film School. It might be a good choice but before attending a film school I suggest you read here:

I used to study in Canda. I finished High School there and attended college for a year. Now I am in Turkey because last year my economical situation did not allow me to conitnue my education.

Now I am co-owner of a 3D animation and computer game company in Turkey. There are 16 people working here and I am leaving the company to study and become a film maker.

If you have any question at all, you can contact me at ozkasgarli?hotmail.com. Maybe we can work in a indy project and I have very good projects.
