Dear all,

For my amatuer filmmaking endeavours I bought a Sony DVD Handycam - one of those cameras that records straight onto a small DVD-R/DVD-RW disc.

The camera has turned out to be a nightmare. Windows Movie Maker won't recognize the videos I upload - playing only the audio that goes with the video, and Pinnacle Studio Plus is similar - it only recognizes the video part of the file and the audio part is missing. Pinnacle Studio also closes down unexpectedly when I upload these videos.

The videos I am uploading are MPEG video format. I've even tried converting the files to other formats.

I want to sell this camera and buy a camera that produces videos editing software can actually recognize without any trouble.

Any help on a good video camera model to buy, a model which will produce easy-to-work-with videos, or on what is wrong with my current camera would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks,
John

As you have found out, those DVD camcorders are great for family vacation and birthday home movies. But as soon as you want to do a little editing, they come up short.

We discuss the "what camera to get" issue all the time here. Check out these threads:

I'm a die hard fan and user of the professional JVC cameras - they are the very best on the
market - but their consumers aren't very good. If you can't afford a 3 CCD camera with a
mic input then I would suggest any Sony, Panasonic or Canon miniDV camera.
