Hello,
I hope to build a miniature wooded hill for a short amateur movie - my problem is that I've no idea where to begin. I've played around with the following ideas:
-find an introductory course (no luck so far - well not in London anyway)
-find a web howto site (ditto)
-buy a book (I've found a few books on railway model making but they don't seem right for the task)
Could any movie model makers out there point me in the right direction?
regards

I don't think you looked hard enough at the railway modeling section(www.horailroad.com/fsm/fsmlayout.html)(www.canyoncreekscenics.com)(www.woodlandscenics.com). The only thing with any sort of miniature is you need an incredible amount of skill and time to make even a half decent one. The key to a convincing miniature is detail, detail, detail. Oh and when/if you do make one I reccomend taking it outside for filming. That way you don't have to fake the sky or horizon and the natural light looks excellent. Good luck.
What? $1000!! That's crazy talk!!

Okay. Detail and lots of time and hard work. The usual then ;-).
Thanks for this.

the key to macking a good miniture is imperfection, not imperfection in the minature but imperfection in the terrain dont make perfectally straight gleaming bridges or round hills. I make most of my minitures with just anything to make the general shape (kebab sticks boxes etc) then i lay thick tin foil over the top and aly on my detail form there.
