I am thinking of building up a portfolio of all the film productions I have been involved in, so I have something to show if and when I apply for any film production jobs.

I haven't done many things, but I have almost completed my first real production, I storyboarded, directed, filmed and I am editing a music video for a small music production company. Whilst working on the music video, I started to think about creating a portfolio, I have made a portfolio before (but not for films) and have an idea of how to build and organize one, but I have never made or seen a film portfolio and I am not sure how you would build one, any help will be grateful ?:)?

Hey my names Cleary, nice to meet you. I guess the first question is how many different things have you got that you can put in to your portfolio?

My portfolio dosent consist of a great deal yet, Ive got a couple of shorts that I made for college work, a music video of my own and my first production out side of college.

I might be wrong but think that production portfolios consist of coppies of your work on VHS, DVD or what ever format. I dont think its like a portfolio of photgraphs or what ever ellse where its for presentation. I would imagine that if you were to present it to some one with in the industry that you would have a print out of what youve worked on and what credits you have to your name. Have you ever visited www.imdb.com? I would imagine that you lay it out like that, but bare in mind that I have never presented a repetoir to any one either. Hope that helps? Cleary.

In fact I would imagine that its not too different from a CV. Cleary.

Thanks for the help, I also thought that one way to present it would be similar in the way IMDB as presented the 'filmographys' but I also though images from the production, any storyboards, early production notes and so on might help show more things of and 'beef' out the portfolio.

I have a similar portfolio (not a built one) but I have made a few short films back in college and I am working on a music video for a small music production company, its really hard to work on it with university work taking up my time.

I hope things go well for you Cleary ?:)?

No problem, obviously if your going to presentit to some one in the industry then your only going to use the work that you feelbest represents you, but thats needless to say I suppose. What Uni are you at? Cleary.

I go to the university of Bolton, I am studying games design as I have an interest in that area as well, I did try and get into the film production course at the same university but the interviewer was in a rush and viewed all my weak no relevant work 1st and could be bothered seeing my strong work, so I didn't get in, I am however thinking about enrolling on a film production course (maybe at Salford university, I thinks its shorter and doesn't require much to get in) after I have done the games one.

But I am looking for real film work experience, right now I am finishing editing a music video for a friend of mines company, which I co-directed, and operated the camera, I am hoping I can add this to my portfolio and add to my CV when I update it.
