Ok, so I have this GREAT book by Dan Brown, it is called Digital Fortress. I have begun to write it as a script, just to see how well it would turn out, and so far, it is fantastic, it is action packed and full of suspense and mystery. My questions are how i would go about getting permission from either Dan Brown or his publisher to use his work for my movie. I dont mind splitting a huge portion of the earnings with them, but i just want to be able to do it and have it released with his name as the based upon name. Im new to the legal side of everything, but know how to write scripts very well, shoot, and edit on Final Cut Studio. I own my own editing system, now i just need something to edit, and we are trying to go as big as possible with this movie. If anyone has any tips on how to get money for a project and all the legal ramifications, i would GREATLY appreciate it. my email address is byarbrough?mac.com. I am really hoping to get some help with this soon, Im more then ready to take on this beast!

I might be 18, but watch out, everyone has to start somewhere. I'm just starting a bit faster and bigger. 🙂

I'm sorry to tell you that the book has already been optioned and a screenplay is in the works. While I'm sure you would be glad to share a huge portion of the earnings with the author, you're too late. Someone else is currently getting paid to write this adaptation.
But if you would still like to contact the rights holders, Digital Fortress was published by St. Martin's Press 175 Fifth Avenue New York, NY 10010 and Dan Brown's agent is Heide Lange of Sanford J. Greenburger Associates 55 Fifth Avenue, 15th Floor, New York, NY 10003.
As long as you don't show your script to anyone there are no legal ramifications. But you can't shop it around nor can you use your adaptation to raise money for your version of the movie.
