Hello everybody! I am a high school student and my friend and I have a great interest in a future in film making. We have a script ready but we feel kind of lost as far as equipment goes, especially audio. We know what kind of mic we need but we're not quite sure how to record the audio. Do we find a camera with audio inputs or do we record it onto a an external source? Thanks for any help. If anyone has any other tips for equipment they would be greatly appreciated!

Easiest is to record to the camera, though then you have to keep running cables around between the camera and the mike; a pain if you're moving the camera around during the shot, for example. Another alternative is to record to a DAT or Minidisk (or even a cheap DV camera if you can find one with a mike input), but then you need to sync up the audio afterwards.
