(not windows movie maker. I have windows 7, and on this version, you cant do jack!)

The only question is if this is a true laptop, or a "netbook". The distinction would be that netbooks tend to have under-powered Atom processors and very small (9 - 10") screens, while laptops generally use more capable processors, graphic processors, have more RAM and, most importantly, have screens of at least 12" or larger.

I'm not sure netbook would be usable with any video editing software. On a standard laptop, even the cheapest model, you should be able to run Premiere Elements, Sony Vegas, Pinnacle Studio or similar.

No, this is not a netbook, this is a gateway laptop, with a 15.5 inch screen. its about have full, but still has 584 GB's of space left.

Sorry about that. I must have missed where you mentioned
the software you need must be free. You're right; Vegas isn't
free. I don't no of any software for PC that's free that will
allow you to change the speed of the video. iMovie does, but
it's not available for the PC.

Vegas isn't free but they have a very nice version that is HD capable and very user friendly for $95. That's not a huge investment for what you get. Vegas can be a very basic 'drag and drop' software but also has advances elements that you can learn and add as you learn the software.

As for free, Windows XP has MovieMaker but I'm not sure what replaced it in Windows 7. Audacity is a free AUDIO editor that is very nice.

There are a few 'free' video editing software packages but I don't know a ton about them. I heard about a project called Wax that was a totally free, basic video editor but I don't know if it is still developed.

If you plan to continue making films I strongly recommend making the $95 investment and buying Vegas Movie Platinum 10.
