I've noticed that this topic seems to elude a lot of discussion in favor of which camcorder to buy or which editing software to use. However, it is to my understanding that bad audio is the quickest way to ruin a good movie. So, I was wondering if we could spend some time on this subject and hopefully get some good tips on the matter. For all you experinced sound engineers out there would you be so kind
as to enlighten us on this issue. Such as:
Best equipment for budget, proffesional?
Best placement for certain scenes?
Wireless mic vs. Boom?
and so forth...
Best Camera: Sony HDW-F900
Best Software / Editing station: Avid Nitris
Best Sound gear: See www.saferseas.com and click on Pro Audio.. What ever you get from them is HIGH Qualtiy... that is were I buy ALL my equipment at.

Best Camera (DV): Cannon XL2 or XL1
Mic: wireless mics are great, but you run the risk (becasue the really great ones are insane amounts of money) of them interfering with cellphones etc. (its a small risk but still). I use a boom mic, simply becasue thats what I could afford, also, for someome just starting out, a boom mic is great because thats what TV uses (most of the time) also, setting them up and learning how they work and all of that other great stuff. The only time a wireless mic is really necesary is when you cant fit a sound man or on a fast moving shot (like a man running or something like that or insdie a car etc.)
