I'm going thru the admission's process for American Film Institute, can someone give me some advice?
I work for a tv station right now, and i feel like i'm just sitting here waiting for wrinkles to pop up. I want to be a film editor!! I have some experience from college and internships, but the question is....should I go to film school? It is a big chunk of money, so I want to make sure it will be worth it. Also, I found like a billion film schools, which ones can I trust?

The Center is a great school. But only you can know if film school is the path for you.
In my experience I've never talked to a working professional who didn't go to filmschool who wished they did. But I HAVE spoken to a few working professionals who went to film school who thought - in hindshigh - it was a waste of time and money. Not many.
I had the motivation to push and make it without film school. Many people don't. The deadlines imposed by school is a great motivator. For me the restraints of film school would have stifled me.
What kind of motivation do you have? Do you need a little push to keep going? Or are you 100% self motivated?

If you're planning on going to san francisco, (AAU) Academy of art's MPT dept is pretty cool, they have everything you need, all the teachers are well connected and very good. But it's expensive, i luckily got some grants and scholarships but i'm still in the hole 20K and i haven't even finished my 2yr yet/but the cool thing is they're great about paying, we've deferred alot of payments for a while, but as long as you pay they're pretty cool about stuff like that. The other solution is to get as many grants as you can by using the work, experience knowledge etc you have, they're out there you just have to find them. G'luck
Yeah, I'm having my last phone interview today with AFI. The person doing the interview is the head of their editing dept...I'm just a little worried about what he will ask me.
Also, if I don't get in...I still plan on moving to LA to pursue this. I do have the motivation, but it's hard to figure what to do. I can't seem to get a job when I'm out of state...everyone tells me to move there first and then apply for jobs. But then, I'm concerned about moving somewhere w/o having a job first. My plan is to move to LA and work as a secretary or something, and find an assistant editor job on my off time. How do editors get started when they don't go to school for it?
