Hi all,

I am going to start making weird short films but at the moment i am a complete novice. I have ?200 to spend on a camera and i would appreciate any advice you could give as to what model i should get for the money and what key features should i be making sure the product has.

Many thanks in advance

Matt

For that amount I think you will be limited to DV not HDV, but I recently saw some model Canon makes that is DV widescreen for about $300US, something like that would at least let you shoot digital widescreen, albeit not high def, but it would be DVD movie rental quality. 3CCD is better than 1CCD, but at ?200 you will likely only get 1CCD.

My advice is simple, dont try to break the bank. Work with what ever you can get your hands on. My camera only cost ?200, so its nothing compared to the ?2,500 cameras that professional production companies use, so what? For me, if your a good filmmaker then it should be about what you can do that matters, not the equipment you use. I dont see it as an obsticle, I see it as a challenge.

You said that youve only got ?200 to spend on a camera. My advice to you is this: what ever camera you choose make sure that its got an external Mic link. As long as you get good sound you should be okay when it comes to editing. Dont ever count on the cameras own Mic, unless thats the desiered effect. Cleary.
