OK i have no idea about any aspect of film making on the technical side. I don't really want to make films that are 2 hours long or script of anything BUT i would like to do something with music videos. I imagine them all the time and have a good 100 or so totally worked out in my head, could someone point me in the direction of a guide on how to lay them out (and also the lingo and stuff, I wouldn't know the technical terms for the ideas i have), I was thinking if i new what was expected of a storyboard or however people submit ideas i could put my best dozen or so on paper and maybe send them off to production companies and see if they'll let me be runner or just see whats involved in making a music video.

Hey Lizardless,
Well committing some of your ideas to paper in the form of storyboards is a worthy goal but not necessary to get an entry level job with a production comapny

The storyboard is an illustrated scene by scene depiction of the story's action as well as the camera framing, angles and movement that capture this action. Needless to say storyboards are an art and science unto themselves. There are a number of directors who often sketch out their own rough boards but those are typically taken to storyboard artists who then create the working boards based on the roughs and discussions with the director and DP.

Do some research on the internet and you can find some info regarding storyboards. For me to try and explain the particulars of storyboards would take a loooong time.

Back to your goal. You want to get your foot in the door at a production company. Production is a tight knit community so it helps to know someone working at one of these companies. Beyond that it wouldn't hurt to contact these companies to see if they would hire you for any position. Being sincere about your desire to work in production and eager to accept whatever job they might offer helps.

Oh yeah, do you live in LA? If not then move to LA. Unless of course you live in NYC which in that case you could get a job working at the east coast office of one of these prodcution comapnies.

...And give up show biz?!

Wait! you don't have to move to LA or NY yet!
I just noticed that you live in the UK. Many of the U.S. based production companies have London offices not to mention London based prodcution compnies.
Of course you may still want to move to LA!

Yeah, probably the best bet is to make the rounds of the production companies in Soho offering to be a runner: might take a while and you might have to work for free, but if you're persistent you should be able to get a job there before long. Also you might want to get to know some upcoming bands and offer to shoot music videos for free just for the experience.
