I have had the same prob when i started to write. a friend and writer told me a something.
DON'T THINK!!! Just write! thinking will slow you down. write your first draft with only the thoughts that flows out of you head. thinking is for the second or more drafts after. just stick with it don't give up. write from the heart and not the mind.

It's funny you have that problem, because I have an easier time with dialogue than I do with completing stories. It's something that you just have to work through, like any other creative process. The above mentioned is the best advice...write anything, no matter what it is, just to keep thoughts flowing. Good luck!
Well, I must say that I had the same problem until recently.
I started on five different screenplays and didn't finish but one of them, despite the fact that the concepts were terrific according to others. But I finally finished a good one.
For me, it was all about the idea. I finally found an idea that I wanted to see come to frutition. Everyone says you should have an outline, a plot synopsis, etc. etc. But I've found that the best way to right is almost a stream of consciousness format. I never had a true idea of where the movie would go other than the start and the end, but I ended up getting there.
So basically, what I'm saying is visualize what you would like to see in your head and put it to page. Work about 4 or 5 pages a day and then stop, take a break from it, and come back to it the next day, read it over and see what comes into your mind of where to go next.
Hope this helps

Mike- the best advice i can give you, is to watch other movies! dont take other ideas of scene/convos between characters but watch other movies. Obviously you'll have to have dialogue to get your point across in your story. Scenes are about doing that. Getting your underlying point across through actions and dialogue of your characters. But as for developing that dialogue, i would say watch movies to get ideas as to how it's done. Any Quentin Tarantino film (Pulp fiction, Reservoir Dogs) or The Godfather Part One or American Beauty are good movies. (If you're going to look at American Beauty, watch it a few times, once or twice to get the theme, then look at scenes etc.) Did i help at all? -dean
Just a small tip, it works for me, I hope it does work for you
once you have written your 4 pages, just visualize your characters and put them on paper. Once you have done that you, try to be in their shoes and you would be amazed how quickly you would be able to write 60, 70 pages.
So far so good
