Hi... please don't be harsh on me if I am doing sth wrong here...
so here is my situation:
I live in EU... and not in UK... but I am thinking about moving to UK... and I am graduating from secondary school right now. 🙂
so I think my path is film making or sth related with this... and I am searching for information about filmmaking in UK.
Ok there are 71 schools, as you say: http://www.filmmaking.net/directory/filmschools/film_schools_browse.asp?country=United%20Kingdom
so how can I find the right one?
Ok am I that stupid or is it really sth wrong? For example look here:
http://www.brightonfilmschool.org.uk/courses_director.htm
1 day a week for 3 months??? is cinematography that easy these days??? or are these courses like this only for geniuses??? what do courses like this can teach you? how to carry camera in your hands or what? ?8)?
one thing I know is that I want to understand cinema and it's making!
but there are some problems: I haven't done it yet, and another - I haven't money for it... are there any advices what should I do?
(no sarcasm, please) ?:I?
or does anybody know are there any ways to study filmmaking for free in UK? as my country is poor and I really do not have enough money to pay for studies... ?:(?

From my own experiences in Ireland, film colleges tend not to accept you unless you have a portfolio that displays a flare for the filmmaking process. It doesn't have to be awesome material, but enough to demonstrate an understanding of the art.

If you've never shot and edited anything, then try to get your hands on a camera and editing kit, to try yourself out. After that, maybe a short starter course in filmmaking. Do these things before you contemplate applying to a full time college film course.

Hope that helps you out.

The only school I know of in the UK that will actually give you a step up the movie-making ladder is the National Film and Television School; that's not to say that the others are bad, just that it's been around for a long time and is well respected with lots of contacts in the industry.

I thought about going there myself a few years ago, but couldn't justify taking that long off work.
