Hi everyone,
I'm part of a group entering in this year's 48 hour film festival in Washington DC. I'm doing the production design, location scouting, etc. THis is the first time I've done anything film related, and I was looking for a little advice. FOr any of you that may have experience with 48 hour film fest, are owners of locations usually agreeable to signing release forms if you are not certain you are going to use the space? Since we won't know the topic until right before shooting begins, it makes it hard to say if we will actually use a given place. At the same time, I don't want to wait until the last minute to get permissions signed.
Also, I would just love some general advice from anyone who's done this before. I am also co-producer, and would appreciate advice. Maybe just how your project went, things you would do differently, advice you would give someone totally inexperienced with this. Thanks for your help!
Jess

We did the 48hr Film Challenge in London last year, which was intense, but fun.

I'd recommend talking with your potential location owners and just preping them for the fact you might want to use their locations. Make sure all your paperwork is prepared ahead of the weekend you're shooting, then on the Saturday morning once you've got your/title and genre, have one person in your team ready to go and "finalise" the locations you actually need.

The biggest thing with doing the 48 hour challenge is really about preparing as much as you can, giving yourself enough options and flexibility to deal with the randomness of your potential storyline.
