Here's the deal...
I have no formal training in filmmaking. I have only worked on set on a few commercials. I love to write and I love movies. I have a script and a few willing friends. I have $20,000 in the bank, but most importantly, I have an overwhelming desire to make movies. I have assembled my crew, researched the hardware, and scheduled my next few months. I am now hearing that it may be better to hire a crew for my 20 minute short and not buy my own equipment. What do I do? I was wanting to do this pretty regularly and thought that owning my own equipment would leave me pretty free to do as I wish after this short is done...was I wrong? What is the correct path? Should I go ahead with my plan and shoot this on my own, or rent my equipment and hire a crew? Of course, a quality finished product is of utmost importance! Please help.

IF I WERE YOU I WOULD LEARN AS MUCH AS I COULD BEFORE MAKING A DESICION. READ A LOT! THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF BOOKS ABOUT FILMMAKING OUT THERE. WATCH TONS OF MOVIES! NOT JUST WATCH THEM, ANALIZE THEM. ASK! IF YOU KNOW PEOPLE WITH EXPERIENCE ON THE FIELD, DON'T BE SHY, TRY TO LEARN AS MUCH AS YOU CAN FROM THEM.

READ, WATCH, ASK.

GOOD LUCK.
