Tony Grisoni is almost as famous for his screenwriting projects that haven?t reached the screen as those that have. He has recently been working with Terry Gilliam on the adaptation of the Terry Pratchett novel Good Omens. The pair are reputedly still looking for $50 million to finance the film but have been forced to move on to other projects. You can also see Tony Grisoni in Lost in La Mancha, a documentary about the making of Don Quixote - the as yet unfinished film masterpiece that was postponed after flash floods washed away their set and the lead actor suffered a double hernia.
However, Grisoni?s work with Gilliam on the screenplay The Brothers Grimm has paid off and the film is due for release in the US in February 2005 staring Matt Damon.
At the end of November 2001 Tony and Michael Winterbottom journeyed from Peshawar to London, researching and writing a film about Afghan refugees who live in a camp and try to escape to Great Britain with the help of people smugglers. The resulting feature: IN THIS WORLD went on to win the Berlinale?s Golden Bear award. Tony also received co-writing credit for the adaptation of the Hunter S Thompson novel Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, the film has become a cult classic amongst critics and audiences alike.
Tony will be presenting a one day masterclass for Panico Films in London. This will be a rare opportunity to learn about his approach to different film making projects and how he got started in screenwriting. He will also be giving the latest details of what he has been working on and showing clips from his movies.
Panico first lay its foundations in film education and production nearly twenty years ago in the Monty Python Studios. Since then, they have provided practical film courses, helping their students to pursue careers and make their own films.
