FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
LOS ANGELES -- ProBell Films presents a new drama/comedy, THE INHERITANCE, from director/writer/producer at Miramax, Patrick O'Bell and lead actor and producer Andy Gates (GEMINI RISING, GRIMM). The film will be O'Bell's fourth feature and will be a character-driven offbeat comedy/drama. The script is currently in development and will be filmed in the vein of other script outlines with improvisational dialogue from the talent attached.
At the prospect of receiving a huge inheritance, the lead character Nick encounters a lost cousin who transforms his average boring life into a state of chaos and debauchery. Nick is a shy, soft-spoken everyman who is living a mundane existence at an uninspiring office job. The one saving grace in his life is his young, attractive, hippie girlfriend, Leslie. When he inherits a large sum of money from his recently-passed father's estate, he leaves his job (and his disgusting boss) and he and Leslie regale in Nick's newfound wealth.
Their celebration is premature, however, and Nick soon learns that his father was operating a Madoff-esque Ponzi scheme. His life only continues its downward spiral when Leslie dumps him and his black sheep cousin, Mark, offers him a job at a collection agency where not everything is what it seems.
Mark quickly realizes he, like his father before him, is operating a fraud. As Nick becomes more brazen, he exacts revenge on his former boss. However, he begins to regret his newfound life as a con artist when he meets Jessica, an unknowing agency client who discovers the truth about Nick's career and warns Nick against his criminal activities. Ultimately, Nick must choose between a lucrative life in corruption and his heart.
The project will begin shooting during the spring of 2014 and will be shot on location in Los Angeles.
