Dallas, TX -- March 25, 2004 ?? Dallas-based Tempest Productions announced their next two historical projects, ?The Donut Girls,? a feature-length documentary and ?Union Jeep Vexin,? a short-form documentary. Both projects will be shot on HD.
?The Donut Girls? focuses on the recently declassified tales of the Red Cross Recreational Workers, girls from mostly well-to-do families who left the security of American shores to share some of the comforts of home in war-torn Europe during WWII. These courageous young women traveled all over England, France and other countries in their ?clubmobiles? delivering fresh donuts and other treats to Allied soldiers at war.
Working with the national Red Cross as well as a local non-profit business as a physical agent, Tempest will document the newly-optioned true stories of the ?Donut Girls? or ?Donut Dollies,? as the were popularly called, from washing their uniforms in gasoline to rushing wounded soldiers off the battlefield to nearby M*A*S*H units. Producer/Director Angela Alexander will interview real-life Donut Girls from across the country as well as the GI's who enjoyed the coffee and donuts and "dreams of a pretty face."
As a result of the ?Donut? pre-production process, the production company was extended an invitation to travel to France to follow one of Donut Girls, North Texan Janet Blair, as she is honored by the French government during the celebration of the 60th anniversary of D-Day ? the invasion of Normandy Beach. While there, Tempest will also capture the re-enactment of the invasion as performed by a group of French re-enactors.
The footage from the battle scenes as well as interviews with the group?s members will be the focus of the documentary short named for the group, ?Union Jeep Vexin,? or UJV for short. While in France, Alexander will engage the men and women who dedicate their passions toward this effort in probing on-camera discussion.
Interview subjects will include both French and American WWII veterans and the re-enactors of UJV, covering the commonalities and shared histories of both countries with frank talk about the citizens, patriotism, loyalty to one?s country and the cultural impacts of WWII on both sides of the Atlantic.
?Speaking with people on both sides of the Atlantic, it became clear that the conflicts that exist between our governments are not reflected in the common man and I think both sides will be pleasantly surprised with the true feelings of their fellow allies,? said Alexander.
Along with the documentaries, Tempest Productions is working with local educators to develop a curriculum for use in junior high and high school classrooms as well as significant online content for both educational and entertainment purposes.
