One can think of Mohammad Rafi as a prodigy, a genius or a gem and still not get any closer to the truth. Such words are too limited, too specific. And specificity kills expression. A common trait all great artists share is that they make it seem like art was created for them and not the other way around.

But even in his country of origin, India, Mohd. Rafi is being forgotten by musicians, artists and the general population alike. ctual terms, Mohammad Rafi was a playback singer during the golden period of Hindi cinema (?40s-70s) and in a career that spanned about 35 years, he lent his voice to over 5,000 songs. If that alone doesn?t qualify him as a figure of importance, then we live in a very strange world indeed. However, no major documentary has ever been made on his life and the printed biographies that do exist often feel incomplete. This needs to change.

The legacy of a great artist is disappearing into anonymity. Art lovers please unite.
