This is my recent sophomore term project. This film is very special to me, so comments and discussion would be very much appreciated.

this short film is exellent.
normally, its not the kind of movie i like, in fact many people can't pull that kind of thing off, as i have spoofed lame ones before (i make comedy films)
but this is truly superb. really makes you think. 5/5

Thanks man, I appreciate it. I wish I had executed better on some things, especially the chugging scene. My actors really pulled through for me on this one, watching him die still gives me chills.

another thing is the punch couldve looked a little harder. i find a slight camera jerk can help make it look like you really socked him, if exucuted well.

Yeah, I agree, for sure. If I coulda done it again I would have tried to get a better punch. We took like 9 takes of that shot and none of them turned out any good. However, I think it works as is with the character because a. he's dying and b. he doesn't look like a kid who could punch hard to begin with. But it would have been soooo satisfying to see a punch that looks like it hurts, especially since you hate the roommate at that point.

Just saw it, and I have to say you did a nice job with that short film. I'd only recommend lowering the ambience sound of the party on some parts, like the initial scene. It overlaps the dialogue of the sick kid a little bit, making it harder to understand. Or perhaps that just happened to me since English is only my second language, not my mother tongue. But aside from that, I like how you use sound to make fluent changes from one scene to another and to create the final situation. I also dig the editing you did to create tension before the roommate hits the boy, it looks really cool.
And I agree with Own3dStudios on the punch thing. I've never tried this before, but I filmmaker I know suggested me, when it comes to punches, to shoot them from the back of the character who's throwing the punch, at shoulder high. So, if you have a guy hitting someone with his right hand (as it's the case), then the camera would be behind his right shoulder. That way is supposed to make a punch look more real. Though I repeat: I've never tried this myself so I don't know. But I?m just saying, so maybe, if you want, you could give it a try next time and see what happens. And besides, with what you had, you could have just added a more aggressive, more "true" punch sound. Because we all know in movies, things don't sound realistic, just plausible.
But well, that's just pointing out some small details. The short film is still great ?:)?
That's a really good suggestion thank you for that. I think I'm gonna get a camera and do some test shots, and try to get the most convincing punch possible.
